Bismillah.
Crazy crazy crazy week…..
I’ve had a million and one thoughts in my head over the last 5-6 days. None of them based on fear or set in a heightened emotional state. But mainly focused on remaining involved without allowing myself to become to the point of exhaustion. Something else I’ve had to work on is not becoming so consumed by the social media coverage, that it takes away from my continued efforts to better myself as a human. It’s very easy for us, especially people of color to want to go all in and fix it now. But the truth is, you still have to take care of you. It’s not selfish…it’s necessary! You’re fighting against a machine that’s built for war, at every level. So tearing it down is going to take sustenance and stamina! So don’t be so quick to empty everything part of your being right away, this is definitely not a sprinter’s race at all. And to tell you the truth that’s precisely how we’re being viewed as the “enemy”. You’re not being viewed as someone fighting against injustice, you’re an enemy to anyone that feels threatened by your stance. So being tired after a week isn’t going to do you any good. Pace yourself! We have a long fight ahead of us. So make sure you take the time to keep yourself up, do what you need to do to preserve you. You need you more so than other’s do and I’ll live by that. I’m not at at all saying just forget about what’s going on(because I know one of you Freedom Riders will take it that way.) But just learn to take a bird’s eye view sometimes.
I see too many people trying fight 57 battles at once and wondering why their falling short. In boxing they call it “picking your spots”, the more intelligent you are with your punches the more effective you’ll be. Don’t let someone else’s ignorance wear you down.
Oh…and make sure you vote! Not just in the Presidential election but the smaller elections as well.
